As I sat on my couch, like all of us (probably), watching the 2024 election results come in last night, I couldn't help but feel this overwhelming feeling that God was speaking to me. Not because President Donald Trump was clearly en route to victory, but because there was a message he needed to deliver.
That message? "If you can keep it."
Yes, those four infamous (and somewhat unlikely to have actually been said) words of Benjamin Franklin's kept ringing in my head and frankly haven't dulled one bit. I've never felt God calling me as strongly and urgently as I felt it over the last few days.
Ignoring that is a disservice to my faith and the reality that is in front of us, so that is going to be my focus and should be yours too. IF YOU CAN KEEP IT.
Franklin's warning wasn't just a catchy phrase - it was a stark reminder of the fragility of democracy in the form of a Republic. When he spoke those words, the fledgling United States was embarking on a grand experiment in self-governance. The Founding Fathers had created a system of checks and balances, but its success ultimately depended on the active participation and vigilance of the people.
Fast forward to 2024, and it feels like we're at another crossroads in American history. One election, of one person, does not a sea-change make. It's a step in the right direction, but just plugging the hole in the dam doesn't mean the thing won't still collapse.
So, as we sit here on the day after the election, there's little doubt that the leak in the dam has been plugged for a little bit, but there is way more work on the path to a more liberty-based society than ever before.
I'm not so sure that the MAGA movement even is interested in reviving liberty, or that it even knows the direction it wants to go, and we may find out it will go in crazy directions over the next four years. But, that doesn't mean the fighting stops.
The socialists aren't giving up, they aren't totally dead. They've been chipping away at the dam of American liberty for decades at this point and came within a whisker of breaking it all down in this election.
So, enjoy the win for what it was — an important moment in American history. It's something that's never happend in the lifetimes of anyone currently alive. Now, put all that passion and feeling in to fighting for liberty and see what truly can be unleashed in what has been God's greatest experiment in human history.
Reviving liberty isn't just casting a vote. It's an every day set of intential actions, thoughts and fellowship building. It took decades to nearly destory the fundamental liberty of this country, it likely is going to take the same to build it all back up.
But, that's what this site is dedicated to — answering the challenge that Franklin put down over 200 years ago. I for one know I'd like to to keep the republic and the liberty for which it stands. How about you? If so, let's go to work together!
It's time the path is laid bare and we begin to follow it together.
